The other night Noah asked me in an excited voice, "Are we going to do the same thing we do EVERY year for your birthday?" My placenta had NO IDEA what he was talking about and I had to ask, "What is it that we always do?"
"Invite all our friends to the park and have a huge soccer game and eat ice cream sundaes!" Oh. Yeah. I explained that I wasn't planning on it but maybe we could do something.
Then Katherine came to me in a panic. "Mom! The girls have a visit! How are we going to celebrate your birthday?!?!" I told her I hadn't really planned anything. "But what about the soccer and the ice cream?" she asked.
What we did do is get home late from the kids soccer practice with nothing ready for dinner. Joshua and Katherine were trying to plan a meal and Gary was on the phone ordering satalite tv and I got so hungry that I ordered everyone into the car. We went to Applebee's and the children took great pleasure in having the wait staff sing to me about being old and turning red, both true. Then Gary tired to convince me that I turned 33 LAST year and almost had me convinced. Hopefully it all made up for the lack of ice cream in their minds.
